2009 Research Triangle

LEDC’s City Visit to the Research Triangle included a number of tours and meetings with High Skill High Wage Employers including; IBM, Cisco, Cree, Red Hat, MeadWestvaco, SAS, Burt’s Bees & GlaxoSmithKline.  Our team focused on entrepreneurship including meetings at incubators; Design Box, DU Hatch (a Duke University Incubator) BTEC & The Hamner Institute, start-ups, b3bio, Inc & Arbovax, Shoeboxed.com, Viamet Pharmaceuticals, and those that serve them, Venture Capitalist Hatteras Venture Partners and The Council for Entrepreneur Development.

We also focused on Health Care with visits to Wake Med’s Raleigh Campus Hospital & Wake Technical Community College & talked about their partnership on Wake Med’s campus as well as touring and meeting with Duke University Medical Center.  Higher Education is always on the agenda when visiting RTP and we met with representatives from NC State (Centennial Campus), UNC and Duke.

With regards to Downtown Development & Redevelopment we met with the Goodman family, who has renovated and redeveloped a 1 million+ square foot former American Tobacco Plant into a upscale mixed-use facility in Downtown Durham, and another large mixed-use project in Raleigh, North Hills, with John Kane.  Our team was hosted by Raleigh’s Chamber executive Harvey Schmidt and spent an evening with former North Carolina Governor, Jim Hunt.    AGENDA  BOOKLET  LETTER
